Daylight Carjacking in Santa Ana

Last Friday afternoon as he sat in his car, the driver of a 2002 Infiniti Q45 was approached by three men wearing bandannas over their faces. According to Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, the men were armed with knives and threatened the driver in order to make him leave his car.

The driver complied, and the three men drove out of the parking lot in the 800 block of South Main Street. It’s not known whether or not the thieves were aware that the police could track the car using its GPS system, and just under an hour after the theft, officers tracked the car to a parking lot on Alton Parkway near Red Hill Avenue. By that time, the car was abandoned and the suspects had fled.

Although the officers had the assistance of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s helicopter and two police dogs, they were unable to locate the carjackers. And, since the three suspects were covering most of their faces with bandannas, the victim could not provide detailed descriptions of the suspects. If you have any information on this incident, please call the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8400.
