Dana Point Homeowner Shoots and Kills Home Invader

Just before 11 p.m. Monday night, a Dana Point resident was woken by noises outside of his home. The man got up, checked the home on the 34000 block of Capistrano by the Sea and, finding nothing suspicious, went back to bed.

He was up a short time later when he heard noises-this time inside the house. Now with closer noises, the resident decided to arm himself with a handgun before searching the house again. According to Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the man was confronted by someone inside his house as he opened his bedroom door.

At this time, investigators believe that the resident fired his handgun more than once, and struck the suspected burglar. Even though shot, the intruder escaped through an open window, which is believed to have been his entry point also.

At this point, we have no further information except that the suspected burglar died outside in the backyard of the residence and that the case will be submitted to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office-although no one has been taken into custody.

The identity of both men has not been released at this point in the investigation.

What do you think about this case? What are your feelings on gun control? Do you think that the homeowner/resident had every right to shoot the intruder? Do you feel that not all states should have laws that allow people to act like it’s the Wild West, or do you think that homeowners have the right to protect their own property…and life? The homeowner, in this case, had no idea whether or not the intruder was armed. Since the resident has not been taken in to custody, it seems that the police feel that, in this case, the resident shot the intruder in self-defense. Please share your thoughts with us, below!
